Some historically accurate, some perhaps no so... The
Twelfth Transforming
by Pauline Gedge - Recommended on the Amarna
Discussion Group! Recounting the political events of the Amarna
period through the royal family's story. Queen Tiye, Nefertiti and
Akhenaten figure in the centre of the book. Reader reviews have called
"Pauline
Gedge's Magnum Scriptus" a work which
is "evocative and beguiling," "completely engrossing
... rich in detail," (See

reviews) The Egyptian
by Mika Waltari - With an average customer review of 5 stars (the
highest) after 35
such reviews, this book set during Akhenaten's reign sounds like
a gripping read. Published originally in 1945 and translated into
5 other languages. Relates the story of Sinuhe who grows up during
Akhenaten's rise to power. Recommended by an Akhet-Aten
Home Page visitor. Akhenaten
: Dweller in Truth
by Naguib Mahfouz -- The tale of the death of the sun Pharaoh is revealed
through the investigations of young man and his interviews with Akhenaten's
family and court officials. This novel was originally published in
Arabic in 1985. The english translation will be available soon! Akhenaten
by Dorothy Porter
-- A verse novel. The story of Akhenaten's life through the voices
of the Pharaoh himself and his family. "Sensuous, historically
accurate, deceptively simple, Porter's poems erupt from these sun-drenched
pages where worshippers 'cluster on Amun / like flies on a dead ram's
eye' and where Egypt's first pharaoh predicts 'I'll enjoy shrivelling
up / in the end / I'll run finer / than powdered sand / and fly everywhere.'
Over 3000 years later, his forecast is proved true." -- Martha
Silano. 196 pages. Paperback. Lynda S. Robinson's Lord Meren Mysteries: Join Lord Meren, the eyes and ears of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, as he investigates murder and crime, in particular, the murder of Queen Nefertiti, which turns out to be a tough case! These are very popular with readers! Murder
in the Place of Anubis
by Lynda S. Robinson -- Queen Nefertiti has been murdered!
Murder
at the God's Gate
by Lynda S. Robinson -- Lord Meren, in the service of Pharaoh, investigates
the sudden death of a priest.
Murder
at the Feast of Rejoicing
by Lynda S. Robinson -- "Lord Meren ... finds a body spoiling
his homecoming and who becomes involved with Egyptian courts and a
murder investigation which could taint his entire family." (Midwest
Book Review)
Eater
of Souls
by Lynda S. Robinson -- "While Meren frightens his family by
poking into the suspicious death of Nefertiti, someone--perhaps a
human, perhaps the demon goddess Ammut the Devouress--is killing common
people in the city of Memphis, gouging out their hearts and leaving
behind a white feather." (Amazon.com) Drinker
of Blood
by Lynda S. Robinson -- "Amid the ongoing and disturbingly hushed
investigation of the murder of Queen Nafertiti, the pharaoh's trusted
advisor Lord Meren is suddenly called away to investigate the bizarre
death of the pharaoh's favorite groom, Senna." (Amazon.com) The
Egypt Game
by Zilpha Keatley-Snyder -- This is one of my all-time favourite children's
books. Some children find a replica of the bust of Nefertiti in a
pawn shop - it was magical back then... and look where I am now! I
still remember scouring bookstores on every vacation for Synder's
books. And this was at the top of the list, along with The
Velvet Room. Not a very high amarna content, but well worthwhile.
For ages 9-12. Pillar
of Fire by Judith Tarr - Promotes Osmand's theories
that Moses and Akhenaten were the same person. Has received a luke-warm
response. Valley
of the Kings : A Novel of Tutankhamun
by Cecelia Holland -- A re-telling of the story of
Howard Carter's discovery and the related history. Readers claim Holland
has written better. 240 pages. City of
the Horizon
by Anton Gill -- A scribe turned private-eye investigates! Set at
the end of the Amarna Age, after the death of Smenkhkare (read
more about it here). 224 pages. Akhunaton
: The Extraterrestrial King
by Daniel Blair Stewart -- Science-fiction / fantasy. In a period
of warfare and hatred, the enlightened alien being, who came to Earth
as Horus, the ancient Egypt god-king, returns to Earth to impart his
ancient wisdom and preserve humanity and the secret it holds. Paperback,
second edition. Nefertiti
Et La Rêve D'Akhnaton
by Andrée Chedid -- Francais. Une Nouvelle. Some out of print titles: King
